Therapy Specialists is an independently owned therapy services company that has been the rehabilitation provider of choice for San Diego physicians, healthcare facilities and residents since 1976. We are the largest independently owned and operated rehabilitation company in San Diego and were among the earliest providers of physical, occupational, hand and speech therapy. Our expertise and dedication to providing excellent care and service has grown over the years to include facilities in Central and Southern California.
Therapy Specialists was founded by Susan J. Harris, a licensed OTR who recognized the need for a therapy services organization that did more than just provide treatment. In 1976, Sue loaded up her Volkswagen van with therapeutic supplies, set up the interior of the van with documents and resources that she would need for billing, and took her services mobile. The Volkswagen van served as Sue’s first office! Her dedication to providing exceptional customer care has grown into a successful multi-disciplinary, multi-specialty practice approach that is embraced by patients, families, physicians, administrators and employees.
Much has changed since then—the van was traded in years ago, and the company’s corporate office is located in a building in San Diego. However, Sue’s pioneering approach continues to influence and guide the organization. Therapy Specialists currently employs over 100 staff members and proactively supports each employee’s career growth. Through continuing education courses, program development, contracting with a situational leadership coach and practicing an “open door” philosophy, Therapy Specialists listens to its employees and is responsive to their needs and concerns. It is this dedication to the business and its employees that has enabled Therapy Specialists to attract and maintain quality therapists.
