Physical Therapy

Physical therapy is specialized treatment that focuses on improving a person’s function, whether it’s related to bones, joints, muscles or nerves. Typically, a person’s function has been impaired due to an illness or injury, wear and tear, or as part of the aging process.

Our highly skilled physical therapists are trained to diagnose the root cause of an individual’s dysfunction and together, develop a physical therapy program designed to help individuals achieve their goals, whether those range from:

  • Regaining function, strength and endurance after an illness or injury
  • Preventing the loss of mobility before it occurs
  • Helping properly train for a race or athletic activity using proper body mechanics to reduce the chance of injury

Occupational Therapy

Occupational therapy is the use of focused treatments to develop, recover, or maintain the daily living and work skills of patients with a physical, mental or developmental condition. Occupational therapy is a client-centered practice that places a premium on the progress towards the client’s goals and therapeutic interventions focused on adapting the environment, modifying the task, teaching the skill, and educating the client/family in order to increase participation in and performance of activities of daily living that are most meaningful to the patient.

Basic Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) consist of self-care tasks, including:

  • Bathing/Showering
  • Dressing
  • Eating/Feeding
  • Functional Mobility
  • Personal Hygiene/Grooming
  • Toilet Hygiene

Occupational Therapy has shown to increase functional ability in patients that have:

  • Serious or Chronic Illnesses
  • Suffered a Stroke

  • Traumatic Brain Injury

Hand Therapy

Hand therapy is the non-surgical management of hand disorders and injuries using physical methods such as exercise, splinting and wound care. Hand therapists also treat other upper limb disorders that affect hand function. Certified Hand Therapists are an occupational therapist or physical therapist who has a minimum of five years of clinical experience, including 4,000 hours or more in direct practice in hand therapy. In addition, each Certified Hand Therapist has successfully passed a comprehensive test of advanced clinical skills and theory in upper quarter rehabilitation. Hand therapy has a crucial role in the recovery from injury of the hand or wrist, and in the recovery from hand surgical operations.

Speech Therapy

Speech therapy is the treatment of disorders that affect a person’s speech, language, cognition, voice, swallowing (dysphagia) and the rehabilitative treatment of physical and/or cognitive deficits and disorders resulting in difficulty with communication and/or swallowing.

Our Speech Therapies treat a variety of disorders, including:

Aphasia – partial or complete loss of the ability to understand spoken words, comprehend printed words, speak and or write due to a stroke, traumatic injury, or disease of the brain.

Dysarthria – problem with articulation of sounds due to paralysis, weakness and/or lack of coordination of the speech musculature.

Verbal Apraxia – inability to properly program the sequence of muscles required to produce speech sounds.

Cognitive Deficit – impairment of attention, orientation, memory, sequencing, reasoning, judgement and problem-solving.

Dysphagia – impairment of the swallow function.

Aquatic therapy is water-based treatments that are beneficial for individuals seeking to increase strength, decrease pain, and improve function. Aquatic physical therapy uses the properties of water coupled with traditional physical therapy techniques to provide comprehensive healing.
